As an Author, I have hundreds of symbols in my novels, The Light-Bearer Series.
Symbolism isn’t a new concept.
However, if it is an inside symbol to the Author, it can be lost to the reader. Isn’t that the reason you write? To convey the picture you have in your head?
I recently read a novel by a talented Author, and symbolism was used a lot and the explanation wasn’t there. However, I knew it was a symbol for something, but I didn’t want or couldn’t decode it.
Symbols are used in The Light-Bearer Series such as the ocean being a calming influence on Tabbruis and Charmeine.

Having a trigger in my books, like the diamond, citrine and onyx wedding ring given to Charmeine, is there for the reader to understand - there is always dark with the light.
I believe my readers get these symbols.
They understand and most importantly, relate to them.
Earlier, I said that I read a book where the Symbolism lost me. Maybe I wasn’t smart enough or engaged enough to figure it out?
I freely admit that I am not perfect. I give the benefit of the doubt to the Author, but it did stick with me so much that I wanted to write about it and ask . . .
Have you ever been lost reading a book with symbolism?

This song is definitely in the symbolistic category!
Lots of love, Emily
